Abstract

The Concept of Water Footprint for Sustainable Water Resource Management

Abstract. The water footprint (WF) method is a comprehensive approach to evaluate direct and indirect water consumption in various sectors, including industrial, agricultural and domestic sectors. WF is defined as the total volume of water needed by an individual or community to produce goods or services. The Water Footprint takes a simple and important approach to the evaluation of water use. The emergence of the concept of virtual water stems from the awareness about the depletion of water supplies in today's world which requires us to start thinking about ways to save water. So it is necessary to develop various techniques of water and soil conservation as well as the need for sustainable management of water resources and environmentally friendly technology updates so that the use of water in the process can be more efficient. With the water footprint approach in various sectors, it is expected to be able to build new ethics regarding water, determine funding, improve water management for world security and peace.
